Winterize your barrel! Barrels should be drained at the end of the season, disconnected from the downspout or rain chain before there is any frost, and brought inside.

How to Make a Rain Barrel with Barrel Depot Kit

Instructions
Purchase a barrel from Barrel Depot

Level the ground where you will position the cinder block or surface to raise your barrel.  Place as close to a downspout as possible. Install platform or Cinder blocks 12-18" high and wide enought to hold a barrel

Cut 6" hole in top of the barrel for filter basket.
   Tap bung into bung hole.
Overflow = At the top side of barrel on either side drill 15/16" hole.

Screw in overflow and use wrench to tighten.

Slide hose over the barbs of the overflow.
Place barrel on 12 to 18” raised stand.
Cut down spout 12” to 18” from barrel height. (Tip: The closer to the downspout the barrel is the better)
Add in downspout elbow pieces where necessary

 Divert into the basket filter
